Tanzania and Uganda to start exporting oil in July this year through EACOP
President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has said that by July this year, the first ship may sail from Tanga in Tanzania to transport oil from the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) to sell to foreign countries.
This step comes after the expected completion of the project, for which the final investment agreement between the countries was signed on February 1, 2022, allowing for implementation and is finally on track for completion.
Dr. Samia made the statement today, Saturday, February 7, 2026, before journalists, after a bilateral meeting with Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, who is in the country on a one-day working visit. "We thank God and we thank our brothers for our talks.
Starting in July, the first ship may leave Tanga to transport the oil," he said.
For his part, President Museveni has said that after independence, these countries should move forward instead of going backwards, especially considering that signs of danger have already begun to appear.
"Big countries can put pressure on us, but how you stop them depends on the strength you have.
We have seen India being threatened by several countries, but it had the strength to say no and India is India now and has been able to grow," he said.
