EWURA announces fuel prices - February 2026 diesel prices to double

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced the maximum prices of petroleum products to be used in the country for the month from 4th February 2026, showing a two-fold decrease in the price of diesel for fuel received at the ports of Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara.

A statement issued by the Director General of EWURA, Dr. James Mwainyekule, today 4th February 2026, stated that the retail price of petrol and diesel has decreased by 90 shillings for fuel received at Dar es Salaam, 25 shillings for Tanga and 24 shillings for Mtwara port. In addition, the price of kerosene has also decreased by 17, 14 and 93 shillings for fuel received in Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara respectively compared to the prices in January 2026.

Therefore, the retail prices of fuel products for this month will be 2,788, 2,849 and 2881 shillings for Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara respectively. And the price of diesel, Dar es Salaam is 2,701 shillings, Tanga 2,762 and Mtwara 2,807 while the price of kerosene in Dar es Salaam is 2,881 shillings, Tanga 2,794 and Mtwara 2,838 shillings.

In addition, for February 2026, the cost of importing fuel at the Port of Dar es Salaam increased by an average of 1.88% for petrol and 1.65% for kerosene and decreased by an average of 5.10% for diesel

. At Tanga port, prices have decreased by 1.62% for petrol and diesel; while at Mtwara port, prices have decreased by 9.24% for petroleum products. Similarly, the average cost of foreign exchange has increased by 1.86%.

EWURA encourages fuel retailers in the country to provide sales receipts to buyers showing the name of the station, date, type of fuel purchased and price per liter.

In addition, all fuel stations in the country should display the prices of fuel products on prominent signs as failure to do so is an offence and violators will face severe penalties according to the law.
